There are some exciting new things happening at your Moravian Ministries Foundation in America! For the first time in our existence, we will be making grants early next year to Moravian congregations, fellowships, ministries, or agencies. On August 1 of 2019, we launched the first Field of Interest Fund on the Moravian Giving Portal. The idea was to simplify giving for Moravians of all means, according to their passions and calling. The Hunger & Thirst Field of Interest Fund was the first to allow donors to give generally to a cause. In this case, to make a gift that will address hunger and thirst in communities where Moravians have a presence. Donors do not need to be familiar with specific agencies, congregations, and programs. A Grant Advisory Team will make the funds available to ministries based on the merits of their grant applications. Your Moravian Ministries Foundation in America will be responsible for due diligence and monitoring to make sure the funds were used effectively as planned.
How to apply for a grant
Since August, our Hunger & Thirst Field of Interest Fund has accumulated enough to make small grants. The deadline to apply for a grant is January 15, 2020. Grants will be awarded and funds dispersed on or around Valentine’s Day (February 14, 2020). It’s easy to apply. Just complete this form and send it to Vince Holbrook at the Moravian Ministries Foundation, 119 Brookstown Ave., Suite 305, Winston-Salem, NC 27101. Or email it to email@example.com.
Who should apply for a grant
Organizations that are affiliated with the Moravian Church in North America are the preferred grant recipients. This includes Moravian congregations, fellowships, emerging ministries, agencies and institutions. The Grant Advisory Team will review applications received by the deadline and make grants to the best projects with the funds available. Organizations may receive a grant from any given Field of Interest Fund once every three years. The Moravian Ministries Foundation in America will manage due diligence on granted funds. Recipients should plan to provide at least an annual report, including photos suitable for publication. Organizations that apply, but do not receive a grant, are encouraged to reapply for the next cycle.
Giving options and grant-making will grow
We have just launched four new Field of Interest Funds on the Giving Portal. All are based on supporting ministries consistent with the Matthew 25 parable of the sheep and the goats. The four new Field of Interest Funds are:
- Clothing (I was naked and you clothed me)
- Prison Ministry (I was in prison and you came and visited me)
- Healing & Health (I was sick and you took care of me)
- Housing & Shelter (I was a stranger and you took me in)
The money that accumulates in these funds will be issued in the form of grants on an annual basis beginning in 2021 (or earlier if sufficient funds accrue). During the month of December 2019, your gift of any amount to any of these Field of Interest Funds will be matched dollar for dollar by an anonymous Moravian donor.
Game on! Double Donation December
We are thankful for an anonymous donor who is willing to MATCH DOLLAR FOR DOLLAR the first $10,000 in donations to all of the Field of Interest Funds on the Moravian Giving Portal received in December 2019. We all want our charitable giving to go as far as it can to do God’s work – so this opportunity is literally a Godsend. We know money is tight in December, but please reach deep to respond to God’s love in December. Your gift of any amount will be a double blessing to someone in our communities.
Hebrews 10:24 says, “And let us consider how to spur one another on to love and good deeds.” And this amazing donor wants to do just that! Help MMFA collect all $10,000 available for match.
You could win one of five gift cards just in time for Christmas
Your donation of any amount to any organization or ministry on the Moravian Giving Portal will enter you into a drawing for one of five gift cards provided by your Moravian Ministries Foundation in America. Their values will be $250, $200, $150, $100, and $50. Winners can choose from more than 100 vendors, including Best Buy, Bonefish Grill, Home Depot, Macy’s, and Shell. This challenge is not limited to the new Field of Interest Funds. You can give to your Moravian congregation (as you might already be planning to do through the Giving Portal). Those who are already set up for scheduled monthly gifts will be eligible with no additional effort. Or, make that end-of-year donation to your favorite Moravian agency through the Portal and be entered to win.
